Our Industry-Leading Mosquito Extermination Method

We Start with a Thorough Investigation

Mosquitoes can be especially nasty pests. They are among the most adaptable and resilient insects on earth, and they can be found in some pretty extraordinary places. They’ve been discovered in mines nearly a mile below the surface of the earth and on mountain peaks 14,000 feet in the air. Virtually any collection of water, natural or man-made, will support mosquito reproduction. So there’s a good possibility that mosquitoes are breeding right in your backyard. Our technicians have the experience and expertise to identify each problem location in your yard and thoroughly treat these areas.

Our Mosquito Exterminators Treatment Tool Chest

We offer a variety of different treatments for mosquito extermination and will provide recommendations for the procedure that’s right for your yard.

We’ll give you a more comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience—and we guarantee it! If mosquitoes are still causing you headaches after our treatment, we’ll come back and treat your yard again, free of charge.

Mosquito

Mosquito - Culicidae

Mosquitoes can be distinguished easily from other flies by the fact that they have both a long, piercing proboscis and scales on the veins of their wings.

Biology

Mosquitoes are insects in the Diptera order—the True Flies. There are more than 3,000 different species of mosquitoes around the world, and as many as 176 of those are recognized in the US. Like all Diptera insects, mosquitoes have two wings. Unlike other flies, though, mosquito wings have scales. The mouth parts of female mosquitoes form a long proboscis for piercing and sucking. Males have feathery antenna; their mouth parts are not suitable for piercing. All mosquitoes feed primarily on nectar and plant juices.

Life Cycle

Like all flies, mosquitoes go through 4 stages in their lifecycles:
  • Egg: Eggs are laid one at a time and, in some species, attached together to form “rafts.” Some species lay their eggs on a water surface, while others lay them on damp soil that will be flooded. Water is crucial to mosquito eggs’ habitat.
  • Larva: Larvae live in the water, coming to the surface to breathe. Many have siphon tubes for breathing, while others lie parallel to the surface to get oxygen through an opening. Larvae shed their skins 4 times, growing larger with each molt.
  • Pupa: Pupae are mobile, able to respond to light changes by flipping their tails toward protection, but the pupal stage is a resting, non-feeding stage of development. Once complete, the skin splits and the adult mosquito emerges.
  • Adult: The newly emerged imago rests on the water’s surface while its body parts harden and dry off. Its wings must spread out and be fully dry before the mosquito can fly. Blood feeding and mating typically occur 2 – 3 days post emergence.

Breeding

Mosquito breeding grounds are typically damp areas, anything from a hollow tree trunk or a pile of wet leaves to a horse trough or discarded tire. They prefer water that is sheltered from the wind, either naturally or artificially. Female mosquitoes must have a blood meal before she can produce eggs for mating, thus her mouth parts that differ from the male’s.

Health Implications

Mosquitoes are an incredible nuisance, inflicting more human pain and suffering than any other organism. For most of us, our experience with mosquitoes is of the itchy, irritated variety: an allergic reaction to the mosquito’s saliva causes red bumps and severe itching. However, it is estimated that mosquitoes transmit various diseases to more than 700 million people each year, in countries all around the globe—resulting in millions of deaths of humans, dogs and horses. The list of potentially fatal mosquito-borne illnesses includes: Malaria, Chikungunya, Canine heartworm, Dengue, Yellow Fever, Easter Equine Encephalitis, St. Louis Encephalitis, LaCross Encephalitis, Western Equine Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and more.

Who To Hire

What to Look for When Hiring Mosquito Exterminators

  • The pest management company should be licensed by the state and insured.
  • Mosquito exterminators should be certified pest management professionals and fully licensed in the state.
  • The company should be a member of a professional organization, such as the National Pest Management Association.
  • The company should have a staff entomologist or access to one.
  • Technicians should have experience with mosquito yard treatments.
  • Choose a company based on its quality of service, not the price. Research user reviews and testimonials to solidify your choice.
  • A pre-inspection should be conducted to assess the scope of the work.
  • The proposed work should follow the steps of integrated pest management, not just pesticide application.
